Since our success is based in tailor-made itineraries, we offer only few pre-date tours per year. Many of these trips are organized in tandem with international organizations while other are prepared by us. All of the tours cited below are guided by David Ascanio or one of his staff guides.

VENEZUELA: HATO PIņERO NEW YEAR

AMAZON RIVER CRUISE

The bird assessments are short trips of about five days, to explore little known locations of Venezuela and sometimes require camping, hiking or boat trips.

This program started in July 2004 at the Sierra de Lajas, in the Perijá Mountains. In August 2004 we visited the Venezuelan-Brazilian border west of Santa Elena de Uairen and in another trip the southern Orinoco Delta, in the newly open northern road of Rio Grande.

In 2005, we visited the Venezuelan-Brazil border again and collected interesting information about the altitudinal distribution of several bird species in the Pacaraima Mountains. Also, we visited the Turimiquire Mountains and found a population of Urich's Tyrannulet.

In 2006 we focused in the Capuana region of the Orinoco River, up-dating the knowledge of the avifauna of the middle-Orinoco and gathering information about the little known Orinoco Softtail.

These trips ssometimes require 4-wheel drive, mule ride, boat trip, walking in mud and tenting, but the reward is a tremendous oportunity to see little knows species.

Please, refer to the tours & trips column for more information of these bird assessments.

The Tepui Trips are organized to explore and understand the unique avifauna of the table-top mountains of southern Venezuela.

The trip usually requires camping, driving on dirt roads, hiking, or helicopter rides and lasts from seven to twelve days.

We started our Tepui Trips in 1984 visiting Roraima-tepui, where we had the first contemporary sighting of Roraiman Nightjar. Since then, we have re-visited Roraima-tepui more than a dozen times, as well as Auyan-tepui (1986) and Tramen-tepui (1989). In these trips, we invite scientists of Venezuelan ornithological museums or universities to join us. Fellow birders can join these trips by making a contribution to cover the expenses, although it is understood that the scientists are not providing guiding services. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn about the ornithological research in Venezuela.

In 2005 we did returned to the slopes of Roraima-tepui twice, in the hope to gather more data of several Tepui endemic species. For 2008, we are planning another visit to Roraima, to find more about a new endemic species to be described!

Please, refer to the tours & trips column for more information about this exploratory trip.
